Glaze can be a great addition to furniture finish for several reasons:
Enhance detail: Glaze can settle into the crevices and details of a piece of furniture, highlighting its unique features and adding depth and dimension.

Alter color: Adding a glaze can alter the overall color of a piece, creating a subtle or dramatic change depending on the desired effect.

Create an antique look: Using a darker glaze on lighter colored furniture can create an aged, antique appearance that adds character and charm to a piece.

Add texture: Glaze can add texture and visual interest to a flat or plain piece of furniture, making it more visually appealing.

Customization: With a variety of glaze colors and application techniques available, glaze can be customized to suit individual tastes and styles.
In summary, using glaze on furniture can enhance its details, alter its color, create an antique look, add texture, and offer customization options. Whether you're looking to update an old piece or create a new look, glaze can be a great tool to consider.
Glazes come in a variety of types, including water-based, oil-based and gel glazes. Each type has its own unique properties uses , so it is important to choose the right glaze for your specific project needs.
I use water-based glazes (Rust Oleum Chalked Aged Glaze is one of my favorite products, Antiquing Glaze from Fusion is another one): their application is super easy, with open time long enough to allow modifications, they do not have strong smell and their are easy to clean. I usually apply glaze with a brush (rather generously) and wipe off the excess with baby wipes.
Give it a try:-)
Happy upcycling!
